Monthly Medal Stableford September 3rd

The footy gods kept the field down to a modest 24 players, challenging for the elusive-for-some gold jacket... err, yellow shirt, which seen the man with the cowboy hat, riding the Angry Hornet, Les "EEEEAAAADE" Eade pop himself onto the podium again, with 3rd place on a countback again! 42 points, which was also what our resident "Shady Man" Manoj Fernando scored, luckily plucking 2nd off Les, and starting to charge to the top of the handicaps board. But the winner today with a gob-smacking 45 points, and a 69 off the twigs, was Jarrad "I like to beat all the pensioners" Buirchell! For goodness sake will someone snap his clubs! Martin page returned to the clubhouse, absolutely peeved! But, as soon as news of the Dorkers towelling up Hawthorn broke, frowns turned to smiles, and the clothes were coming off... as you can see! Also Kevin "Roach-Legs" Pearce extended the begger's hand, during the master-of-arms, and managed to pilfer loose change off the general public, who just trying to see thier kids get married! For goodness sake Kev, No-one is safe ! :)

A POSTCARD FROM GLENN ROSS

For those that didn’t know, Glenn Ross is a Primary school Principle and he recently sent the club a photograph of his latest employment location, which has been keeping him away from his beloved Rosehill.

Glenn’s latest place of employment (and golf club) is approximately 1,100 km from Kalgoorlie and is affectionately known as “The Never Never’s”!!!

The picture below shows Glenn using his students to help him look for his lost ball on a recent round. (and we complain about the rough at Rosehill)

For the record, the ball couldn’t be found, so he has to go back to the tee and play a belated provisional, which held up the groups behind, much to their disgust.

Remember Glenn, always hit the provisional before you leave the tee!!! J

Thanks for the photo Glenn.  We hope to see you back down the club before the year is out.

AUGUST NEWS UPDATE

The Captains Trophy Report will be along next week.

THE QUIZ NIGHT

Over 100 keen members, family and friends turned up to the Bellevue RSL hall to test their brain power against each other in the annual Rosehill Social Golf Club Quiz Night.

Competition was hot, with many “ring-ins” in the form of Professors, Teachers, and Doctors turning up to aid the “average” golfers in their quest.

Much fun was had with Table Quiz’s, Heads & Tails, Door Prizes, Raffles and Auctions Galore.  As always the guys at the club did not let us down, getting many fantastic prizes from some very generous sponsors and just about everyone went home with something.

The night wouldn’t be the same without such a great selection of goodies on offer, so a big thank you goes to everyone who helped out, either by getting prizes or helping set things up or packing things away.

In the main game the competition was very tight with a count back needed to separate the top two.  This year’s winner was club member Steven Matthews’s table of Noble Prize Winners, who scored 90 out of 100 (including their joker double up round).  Just missing out in 2nd were club members Hugh LeTessier and Peter Marriot, with their gang of Brainiacs and in third place much to everyone’s shock were the clubs young guns in Jarrod, Lyndon and Ryan (Killer).  Clearly it was the rest of their table who had the smarts J  Well played one and all.

WESTSTATE 4BBB CHAMPIONSHIP SELECT

A good turn out on a day of uncertain weather conditions was a pleasant surprise. Forty players took part in the championship with an interesting winning combination that the club has not
witnessed in quite a few years.

Father and son team, Greg and Reece Ridge ran away with the honours with 53 points on a count back from Mark Grosetti and Ray Close. Ridge junior is creeping fast up the ranks and looks to be headed for the “A” grade before long.

A player who is regularly in the frame, JB,(Jarred Buirchell) partnered by the also quite consistent Pres, Kevin Pearce came in third with 50 points.

Don’t forget that next week is also the quiz night. There will be no results and prize giving after the game. This will give players a chance to adequately prepare themselves for the 7pm quiz night start time.

Thanks to all members who have been very forthcoming with quiz night prizes. Don’t forget, if you can still get anything that can be used for a prize, please bring it down to the club before tee off.

Derek will be in before he proceeds to arrange the setup at the venue. The more we have in the way of prizes will make it a better result for all.

THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY - STABLEFORD

Hey something is not right here.  It’s one thing to be the President of the club and ensure that things are running well and that everyone is enjoying themselves, as well as trying your best on the course, which Kevin Pearce does nicely, but it’s a completely different thing to win your own bloody trophy.  That’s just plain rude!!!

But that’s what the Pres did on Saturday, with a blistering 44 Stableford points.  Kev kept his good form going to win the seasons most prestigious trophy on offer (just ask him).  Second place went to Mark (should have gone in the 10 buck bet) Wareham with 43, with Ray (who me) Close taking our third with 42 points.  He needed a count back from Manoj (TWFSL) Fernando and Carl “The Doctor” Andersson.

In other news Young gun Jarrad “Justin” Buirchell bagged yet another Eagle, this time on the 2nd hole.  Somebody stop him!!! J  We also had a couple of visitors in Chris Newton and Garry Herapath who got to experience Rosehill first hand (having heard all the hipe), we hope you enjoyed your game guys.

Don’t forget that next week is a Select event, so make sure you’ve worked out who your team mate is before you arrive.

Finally, the quiz night is just two weeks away, so make sure you lock your table in now.  It’s not only open to club members.  Your family & friends are more than welcome to make up the competitors with the maximum being 8 players per table.  If you can get anything that can be used for a prize, please do your best and bring it down to the club and give it to Robbo next week or Derek the week after.

MONTHLY MEDAL – PAR

Yet another beautiful winter’s day in paradise for the 40 odd players who tried their luck in search of the monthly medal shirt via a game of Par.

The weather must have had something to do with the scoring as it was sensational, with 3 players all scoring a massive +7 each.  The count back method was required to see Kevin D’Cruze unluckily miss out in third, from runner up Mark Wareham, but the winner on the day was “The Swollen One” Hugh Lettesier.

He was over the moon with his performance and jumped on the nearest chair to have his picture take (as can be seen on the front page).  He’s not called “Huge” for nothing. Well played guys.

Also we have a new club record in the “Wheeeeeeeeeel of Misfoooooortune”  Young Gun Jarrad spun up a “liner” but claimed it was really a $40+ pay out.  So Robbo offered him another spin for double or nothing, provided he could spin $32 of higher.  Being the gambler that he is, Jarrad couldn’t resist the offer and duly spun up $3, leaving him with the new club record of $0.

Next week is the “Presidents Trophy” with a game of Stableford.  Apparently this is one of the most prestigious events on the calendar (or so Kevin Pearce keeps telling us).  So bring your A game along.

JULY NEWS UPDATE

RIMTEC TROPHY - STABLEFORD

A great day, a good bunch of guys and a major trophy up for grabs with the running of the Rimtec Trophy with a game of Stableford.

Some very good scoring as well with honourable mentions to Adam “Angry” Andersson and Vince Shallcross both on 43 points, just getting pipped on a count back for third place getter Kevin “The Pres” Pearce.  The top two also needed a count back, with Martin Page taking second on 45 points from the winner Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins.  Well played guys.

STABLEFORD BOWL - FINAL

Fantastic winter conditions greeted the 40+ hopefuls in chase of one of the year’s major trophies with the running of the 2nd and final round of the Stableford Bowl.

With a number of players in contention, points scoring was high, with a count back being required to separate the top two in the overall event.

Coming out on top was Glenn Ross who shot a second round 44 to add to his 42 from last week for a total of 86 to take the overall win from an unlucky Steve Blake who shot 42 to add to his previous 44.  The count back always takes the last round played as the first deciding factor and it was this that got Glenn over the line.  Very close indeed and well played guys.

On the day it was Reece Ridge who broke through for his maiden win with a whopping 46 points to win 3 golf balls.  Glenn’s 44 saw him take 2nd with Steve’s 42 capturing 3rd.

In other news, the big jackpot bird’s nest has flown the coup.  Living up to his new job description, mine site master Mark “Ned Kelly” Burich flew in and then flew out with $113.  Sweet as Bro!!!

Don’t forget that next week is The Rimtec Trophy, which is sponsored by……….. you guest it, Rimtec.!!  Stableford is the order of the day and hopefully we will have a company rep there to join in the fun.

Finally, don’t forget the Quiz night on Saturday August 28th.  Tables are filling up fast, so contact Derek to book yours ASAP.  Also anything you can get in the way of prizes will be appreciated.  Ask your boss, your family and your mates to see if they can come up with something we can use as either a stand alone major prize or something that can be put towards part of a prize.

STABLEFORD BOWL - ROUND 1

Another favourite event is the running of the Stableford bowl, which is played over two weeks.   At the half way mark it is Lawrie “Truck” Wishart who is leading the way with an impressive 45 points.  He needed a count back however to hold off Mark Grossetti in second, with Steve Blake holding down third spot with 44 points.

Also young gun Jarrad Buirchell sunk yet another Eagle, this time on 12th.

On the social side, the wheel of misfortune was joined by a couple of raffles, with Neil Buscumb taking home a $50 Golf Box voucher and Jim Wyatt winning a $50 Liquor Land voucher.

HARLEY CABINETS DAY - STROKE

Well what can we say, it is Winter.  Cold, wet and windy conditions greeted the very good turn up for a game of Stroke, with many thanks to Colin Lane and his companies continual sponsorship of the Harley Cabinets Trophy.

Runaway winner on the day was Jarrad “Justin Beaver Eater” Buirchell who romped it in with a 65, including yet another Eagle, this time on the 12th.   He also had the honour of having club favourite John Trewick present him with the trophy as can be seen in the picture below.  Well played Jarrad.

Second place was taken out by our resident “danger man” Ryan “Killer” Bale, who carded a 68, one shot ahead of third placed man Neil “Billy” Buscumb, who needed a count back from the “Hirsute one”, David Gallop who both scored 69’s.

In other news Eddy Lorenti bagged the only birdie on the Birds nest hole.  Just one problem, he wasn’t in the comp!!!

And finally a further update on the new club record that was reached on the dreaded wheel of misfortune, after the unlucky Glenn Ross spun up just $2.00.  Well Kevin “Cruzer” D’Cruze spun up the ultimate prize on Saturday.  One whole dollar.  Congrats Cruzer J

MONTHLY MEDAL - STROKE

Cold but dry conditions made for a bumper turn out on Saturday for a game of stroke in search of the infamous Yellow shirt.  Once again some amazing scoring came into play, with Dennis Han having the ball on a string to card a net 63!!   How unlucky must Manoj (TWFSL) Fernando feel, also scoring a 63 but running 2nd in a count back. Third place was taken out by Steve Blake with an impressive 65.

Dennis wasn’t done there though, he also picked up $85 in the birds nest and then won $48 on the wheel of misfortune!!!  When you’re hot, you’re hot.

At the other end of the scale, a new club record was reached on the dreaded wheel, with the unlucky Glenn Ross spinning up just $2.00.

A couple of things to take note of guys.  Firstly, Bookings.  Last week we had 38 guys book via Kev by Wednesday night.  We then had 46 players turn up!!!  We have to lock our playing numbers in with the course management and it makes life hard if people don’t obey the club rule on booking in by Wednesday night.  It’s very possible that you could miss out on a game if you just rock up, so please do the right thing.

Finally as you will see below, the memorial bench honouring both Bill McComb and all of the other members who have passed on, is now in place between the 9th and 10th greens.  Next Saturday, the draw will be announced over at the bench when we will honour those that have gone before.  Please arrive a bit earlier and then head over to the bench area when the bell goes.

JUNE NEWS UPDATE

MATCH PLAY FINALS

4 very nervous players took to the course to fight for the Matchplay Championship & Plate Finals.  In the Championship it was Glenn Ross took the victory over Arie Venter 3 & 2 to claim the major trophy.

In the Plate event final it was Anthony Tuppin who had a convincing win over Les Eade 5 & 4 to take home some silverware.

Well played to all the guys and congratulations to the winners.

The remainder of the pack played a round of stroke, with some very impressive scoring.  Ryan “Killer” Bale took out the win with a 65!!!  Two shots further back was Peter Buttfield on 67, with Manoj Fernando taking out third on 68.

Next week is the July Monthly Medal and just a reminder that some food will be on after the game.

MATCH PLAY SEMI FINALS

Another perfect winters day saw over 40 guys turn out to witness the Matchplay Championship & Plate Semi Finals, with all 4 games going down to the last few holes.

In the Championship, Arie Venter pipped Dennis Han 2 & 1, with Dennis having to play half the game with a decent bruise on his arm after a wayward member of the public struck him, while he standing on the 9th tee.  The ball came from the 4th tee!!!

In the other Semi Glenn Ross had to fight hard to beat Shane Seward 3 & 2, meaning he will line up in next week’s Championship Final against Arie.

In the Plate event Anthony Tuppin did well to be Jarrad Buirchell 2 & 1, while Les Eade needed 2 extra holes to beat Alby Hawkins in a thriller.  So Les will line up against Anthony in next week’s Plate Final.

Good luck to all of the players.

As for the remainder of the guys, they enjoyed a game of Par, but were amazed at the results.   The captain gave an honourable mention to Derek Russell with +5 who ran 4th, but that wasn’t nearly enough to worry the eventual winner.  Even the "in form" Hugh Letessier wasn’t close with +6 in 3rd.  In fact the very unlucky Eddy “The Italian Stallion Pony” Lorenti, couldn’t believe it when his score of +8 was only good enough to run 2nd to the winner, Dave “OMG did he really score that” Robertson who had +10!!!

The club has called for Robbo to undergo a rectal examination to confirm where he plucked the score from.  The TAB has suspended paying out on all bets until the results are in.

One thing we do know for sure, is that for his outstanding efforts Robbo won 3 golf balls and lost 2 shots off his handicap J.  Well played Robbo!!!

Finally, don’t forget this Friday night is the 10 Pin Bowling Social night at the Morley Bowl from 7.30pm.  If you have registered to play via Robbo, please make sure you turn up as we will be charged for any “no-shows” and that will mean we will have to charge you the full cost of the game fee’s.

MATCH PLAY QUARTER FINALS

What a glorious day for a game of golf, 23 degree’s, not a cloud in the sky.  Oh how we hate winter!!!.  So a good field of players turned out, even though only 16 guys were in with a shout at either the Matchplay Championship or Matchplay Plate events.

There were some very close finishes as well with a number of games going right down to the wire, but at the end we have 4 Semi-finalists in each division who will try their luck next week.

In the Championship, Arie Venter will tee off against Dennis Han and Shane Seward will do battle with Glenn Ross, while in the Plate Les Eade tackles Alby Hawkins and Anthony Tuppin will lock horns with Jarrad Buirchell.  Good luck guys.

Full results can be seen on the results page by clicking here.

For the other players who just wanted a hit last Saturday, a game of Stableford was on the cards with Mark Grossetti scoring a very nice 43 points to take the win from “The Swollen one”, Huge Left Testicle, err....sorry, we mean Hugh Letessier, with the every reliable Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins taking out third.

MONTHLY MEDAL - STABLEFORD

Taking a break from Match Play and staying with tradition, the first game of each month is the monthly medal day and this time around we had a great field of players battling it out over a game of Stableford.

And what a close fought affair it was with the top 4 players all scoring 44 points.

An honourable mention goes to Neil Buscumb in 4th, place but it was Alan Prodger who took out 3rd, with Anthony “Tupp’s” Tuppin in 2nd, but the winner was the man returning from his holiday, all refreshed, Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins.  Well played guys.

Not to be outdone with being pipped for 2nd spot, Tupp’s also took home $72 in the birds nest.  Nice one.

Next week are the quarter finals of the Match Play Championship and Plate events, but for those not left in that comp, there is a social game of Stableford.

Also guys, just a reminder to please book in with Kev by Wednesday night (if not already done so).  We are getting quite a few guys just rocking up for a game unannounced and it can cause issues and we’d hate for you to miss out on a game.

MAY NEWS UPDATE

A POSTCARD FROM ALISTAIR

To the guys at Rosehill

I couldn’t resist, I just couldn’t.  I know it’ll cost me a fine when I get back, but how often do you get to pose for a photo like this?

And no, I didn’t play the Old Course, it’s closed on Sundays, I played the Balgove.  But you can walk the Old Course!

See you when I get back, Cheers Alistair.

MATCH PLAY ROUND 1

Always an interesting event, the match play championship & plate took centre stage, with the top 16 in each in both categories battling it out to move through to the quarter finals.

Full results can be seen on the results page by clicking here.

For those who turned up for a hit, Paul “Whitey” White took out the win in a game of stroke with 67, from Kevin “Cruzer” D’Cruze on 69, with Alan “Prodge” Prodger taking third with 70.

Next week sees the running of the June Monthly Medal with a game of Stableford, with the match play knockout format returning for the following 3 weeks.

HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 2 (FINAL) - STOKE

The first wet one for season 2010 made condition lousy at the club for the second and final round of the Handicap Championships.  This made scoring tough and none of last week’s front runners could catch the fast finishing David Gallop, who came from the pack to sneer the big prize.

His 66 was enough to win both the day’s event and when added to his 71 the week before saw him take the overall championship as well.  Runner up for the event is the consistent Alan Marson with rounds of 68 & 69 and a honourable mention must go to Mark Grossetti who missed out with rounds of 66 & 71.

2nd place on the day went to Alby Hawkins, who also had a 66, with Greg Ridge taking third with a 67.  Well played guys, especially in those conditions.

Next week is round one of the Match Play Champions and the Plate events.

Below is the draw (at this stage).  Don’t forget, if you know you can’t make each week (should you advance) please let Shane know so he can promote the reserves into the main comp.  All other player not in the comp will be having a social game as well.

HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1 - STOKE

A big field of 45+ players turned out for one of the years major events in the Handicap championship, which is played over two weeks of stroke competition.

After last week’s scoring we thought that things would go back to a more normal level, but the guys are serious about winning this one and the half way leader is Ray Close who shot an absolutely sensational 62!!!.  But wait there’s more. Jarrad Burchell also shot 62 to run second in a count back, how unlucky can you get.  Third place went to Dennis Han on 65, which is also a great round.

Jarrad wasn’t that unlucky though, as can be seen below, he also took out an Eagle on the 6th (that’s some 2nd shot) and he also took home the birds nest on the same hole to collect a handy $85, although a number of guys are putting in a protest, as they state that Jarrod didn’t actually get a birdie so the prize should carry over J

Sensational golf guys, well played.  Let’s see if you can back it up next week or will the chasing pack apply too much pressure?

MATCH PLAY QUALIFYING - STOKE

Perfect weather was on display as 43 members lined up for a game of stroke to decide the top 36 players who would fight out the knock out formula Match Play Championships later in the season.

The scoring was hot, with 3 players coming in with net 64’s needing the count back method to separate them, with the winner being Paul “Whitey” White, who took the win from Derek “Jack” Russell with Glenn Ross in third.

Honourable mentions also go to 3 guys who scored 65’s and can consider themselves unlucky not to win, being Aire “Hip Hop” Venter, Dave “Robbo” Robertson and Carl “Angry” Andersson.

It should be noted that Whitey’s winning score was a gross 75, which also included an out of bounds on the 8th (yes the 8th, he stuck it over the fence alongside the 4th!!!) so taking that out of the equation, it was a sensational round, well played Whitey and all the other guys too.

Below is the final list of the qualifying positions from Saturday. A big thanks to Lawrie for working extra hard to get these out in quick time.

Once again please let Shane know if you won’t be able to play on June 12th, June 19th or June 26th which are all Matchplay days.  If so, we will remove your name from the qualifying list and move the next player up the order until we have 32 potential full time players.

MAY MONTHLY MEDAL – PAR

Sensational autumn conditions saw some good scoring in the chase for the Monthly medal shirt, this month with a game of Par.

Nearly 40 players turned out with the winner being a very happy Anthony “Tuppy” Tuppin who scored an impressive +6.  He was two shots clear from 2nd placed Glenn Iry on +4, who needed a count back to see Carl Andersson take third.  Well played guys.

Next week is the qualifying for the upcoming Match Play Trophy & Plate Championships.  For those new to this highlight of the season, the top 32 players from this qualifying game of stroke go through to the championship.

The knockout format (grand slam tennis style) has its first round on May 29th with the top 16 qualifiers playing off for the Match Play Trophy and the bottom 16 qualifiers playing off for the Plate. This leaves us with the quarter finals to be played on June 12th, the semi finals on June 19th with the final being held on June 26th.

Don’t worry though, if you don’t qualify or get knocked out of the Match Play comp, each week we have a game of Stableford, Par or Stroke to keep the rest of the gang entertained.

Please note though, to make a proper competition of things, if you know that you won’t be able to play on any of the dates listed above, we ask that you do not play in any round.  We will go to the 33rd qualifier and so on until we have 32 potential full time starters.  This way everyone has the chance to play the comp out to its conclusion, please let Shane know if this affects you.

COMBINED STABLEFORD

Absolutely perfect conditions greeted the gang as they played off for yet another major trophy which was up for grabs in the combined stableford team’s event.

Quite simply this is a 2 man team drawn team’s event, with both stableford scores being added together.

Winners on the day were the Dynamic Duo of Mark Grossettii and Mark Powell, with a total of 81 points.  Runners up on 77 were Eddy Lorenti and Martin “Marty” Page, with Kevin “Cruzer’s on his way to Thailand” D’Cruze and Ryan “Killer” Bale coming in third also with 77 points.

Next week see’s the running of the May Monthly Medal, with a game of Par.

CANADIAN FOURSOMES - STROKE

After a three year break, one of our major team trophies returned to Rosehill, with the Canadian Foursomes.  The game is a 2 man stroke event, with both players driving, put playing alternative shots thereafter, so it’s a different way of working with your team mate.

The stars of the day were the team of Dennis Han and Robbo, who teamed up to score a net 66.275 to win, from ABBA, a.k.a. Carl and Adam “Angry” Andersson on 67.375, with Alan Prodger and Eddy Lorenti taking out 3rd with 67.625.

Another star on the day was Ryan “Killer” Bale seen below going the tongue on his new Eagle Trophy, scored on the 9th.  Well played to all the guys.

MONTHLY MEDAL - STROKE

With Easter falling on the traditional monthly medal day (the first Saturday of the Month) the fixtures were changed around to give more players the chance to win the classic yellow shirt.

A massive 49 players turned out and the victor (for the 2nd week in a row) was Vince Shallcross, this time with a 65.  Nice scoring Vince, but we think the handicapper has got you this time, with one and possibly two shots coming off.

In 2nd place was Alan Marson who need a count back to pip Steve Blake, both players scoring 67’s and would feel unlucky not to take out the major prize.

Finally, the man who’s name always pops up to win something was Neil Buscumb, who took out the least putts award with 27 putts.

After the game, players enjoyed Hamburgers, delightfully served by our waitress “Robbo”.

Next week is the Canadian foursomes, which is a two man “select your partner” team’s event, whereby both players tee off and then select the best ball, the opposite player then takes the next shot and then alternative shots are played until the ball is sunk.

Also, don’t forget to come along and support the club at the Special General Meeting at the Guildford Town Hall, 7.30pm this Wednesday.  It is very important that you attend, in an effort to move the cub forward in a positive fashion.

BRING A MATE - STROKE

The Easter weekend saw a good turn out of players, some of who went to “Rent a Crowd” and hired a mate for the day to come and have a hit.

1st went to new member Vince Shallcross with a nett 67 who needed a count back from Ray Reichard, with 3rd going to Adam Andersson on 68, who needed count back over Lou DiGregorio, but Lou didn’t miss out all together as he took out the lowest number of putts with 26.  Just to make it even Adam won the Birds nest.  Congratulations to all the winners.

Don’t forget that this Friday is the first major social event, with the lawn bowls night at the Bassendean bowling club at 6.30pm.  Spots are still available, just contact Robbo via lawnbowls@rosehillsgc.com

MARCH NEWS UPDATE

THE FOUNDATION CUP - STABLEFORD

A favourite event of the season is the Foundation Cup and this year the event was very tight indeed, with the top three all scoring 42 stableford points, with the count back system required to separate the winner, who was new comer Mark Grossetti, followed by Martin Page in second and Danny Joshi in Third. Well played guys.

Not to outdone by the winners was Louieeeeeeeeee Digregorio, who bagged the first Eagle of the season on the 6th hole, seen here (albeit a little fuzzy) with a shocked President Kevin Pearce, who couldn’t believe what Louie did.

Next week is the Easter long weekend and we have the “Bring a Mate” game.  Please make sure you book in both yours and your mates game via the web site or by ringing Kev, no later than Wednesday night.  Failure to do so may mean that you may not get a spot.  Also if you do book and then can’t make it, you may have to pay the green fee’s if the course management enforce the cost.

The following week is the Monthly Medal and Robbo is organising Hamburgers after the game so put that one in the memory bank.

Finally please let Robbo know if you and possibly your partner want to come along to the “just for fun” Lawn Bowls night to be held at the Bassendean bowling club on Friday April 9th.  We need to lock in the catering numbers with the bowling club soon, so don’t delay.  The event will be subsidised by the club and more details can be found by clicking here

THE PATRONS TROPHY - STROKE

The first major trophy of the year saw a massive 44 guys turn up to try their luck in the Patrons Trophy stroke event.

Perfect weather conditions saw some handy scores, with no one better than Glen Iry who carded a great 65, to take the win by one shot from Neil Buscumb, with Ryan Bale in third place, the latter also needing a count back to separate them on 66.  Well played guys.

Later after the game, we got another chance to see the infamous Robbo’s “Wheeeeeeeel of Misfortuuuuuuuuuune”.  And the misfortune was for Robbo, as the 5 lucky winners spun up BIG cash prizes!!!

Also don’t miss the first major social event of the year with a “just for fun” Lawn Bowls night to be held at the Bassendean bowling club on Friday April 9th.  The event will be subsidised by the club and more details can be found by clicking here.

IRISH STABLEFORD

36 players tried their hand at a strange scoring game called Irish Foursomes played in teams of 4, who had to work out Einstein’s theory of relativity to come up with the result. (slight exaggeration there)

The winners on the day with 132 points (we think, cause it took them 15 minutes to re write their cards as no one was really sure how to score)  were the Smiley one, Manoj Fernando, with the new guys in Ray Close, Steve Bayne and Mark Grossetti who were rather happy with themselves.

In 2nd place on 131 were the experienced ones of The Pres, Kevin Pearce, Lawrie Wishart, Lou Degregorio and the tall one Dave Gallop

And bringing up the rear (well third place) were “The Men in White” consisting of Dave ‘Robbo” Robertson, Martin “Pagey” Page, Anthony ‘Tupps” Tuppin and the Ladies man, Kevin “The Cruzer” D’Cruze

After the game, the gang were introduced to the new fundraising game called “The Wheeeeeeeel of Misfortuuuuuune” which saw a rather happy Alan Prodger clean up!

MONTHLY MEDAL SPONSORS DAY - STABLEFORD

What a great start to season 2010. 41 smiling happy players turned up, most with their registration forms and fee’s ready to pay and play.

The first game of the New Year was a gentle round of Stableford, in search of the Rosehill Holy Grail, that we also call the monthly medal Polo shirt.

First winner out of the blocks was Paul “Whitey” White, who scored a very nice 43 points, from Steve “Hoppy” Hopkins in second with 42 points and “The Swollen One, Hugh LeTessier on 41 in third.

We also are pleased to see some new faces at the club, with 7 new members joining for the first time.  We will get your details on the web site soon so we can all get to know you better.  We hope you all enjoy your time at the club and look forward to your participation both on and off the course.
