The Latest Summer Winners
The Winners So Far
Click on the pictures in the story below for a bigger image!
Final Day Matchplay – Stroke – 24-2-18
The final day of a very successful Summer competition rolled around with a game of Matchplay.
A full capacity of 20 players fronted, with some interesting match ups taking to the course which saw some close (and not so close) results.
The closest of the day was the battle of the Beeches Boozers, with Markbuck and the Viking coming in all Square.
The “Fight of the Freo Faithful” saw Uncle Ray pip Billy 1 up. Another 1 up winner was Grant (nickname to be advised) Morrogh who was up against The
Bridesmaid, who live up to his/her name.
In a real “Close” one, it was Razor who jumped Puddles 2+1.
3+2 winners were The Dobbinator who beat International Jet Setter, Kill-R, while The Fat Controller tamed Churchy.
BJ beat his buddy in Angry 4+3, while the Postie delivered a 4+2 win over Scotty.
While in the last two events, it a BIG win for LITTLE Dave 6+5 over Hoppy! Ouch.
And if that win wasn’t a big enough shock to everyone, we had The Wanker From Sri-Lanka who beat The Original Pin Up Boy Jarrad, 6+5!!! TWFSL?? WTF? We
are never gonna hear the end of this one!
After the game the club put on a feast for lunch, along with some prize giving.
It’s been a great summer comp and thanks must go to all that help organise things, but none more than The Postie, who was by far the driving force. Great job
Wayne, the boys and the club are really grateful.
So next week sees the first game of the 2018 Winter comp. Once again, please note, as a one off we have to tee off at 7:30am (the week after we go back to

Flag Comp – Stroke – 17-2-18
Another mild, if not a little sticky morning greeted the 14 guys who fronted for a game of stroke, which culminated in
putting your name on the shared flag, in the hope of taking it the farthest and being crowned the Flag comp winner.
Some very good scoring too, but none better than our winner, the Dobbinator. He looks very pleased with himself as well. Coming home in second spot (for a change) was Puddles,
while in third we had the Bridesmaid, who this week became “The Flower Girl”. Well played guys.
We also want to welcome two new members to the Rosehill Social Golf Club family, with newly paid up members, Grant Morrogh and Mike Scott being our latest additions. Nice to have you
as part of the club, we hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of the guys.
Next week sees the final game of the Summer season, with mate facing off against mate in a game of Matchplay. After the game, the club is putting on lunch for all of the regular summer
players. (Yes, even you Manoj!!!) You have a choice of Steak or Fish, so please let Wayne know what you prefer “before” the game, so the kitchen can sort it ready for your
Numbers are nearly at capacity, but if you’re interested, please contact Wayne, no later than Wednesday night, use Facebook, the web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239.
As a foot note, the week after is the first game of the winter season. Now please note, as a one off we have to tee off at 7:30am (the week after we go back to 11:30am) After the

part of it.
4 Man Ambrose (Drawn) – Stroke – 10-2-18
Every once and a while, an Ambrose game comes along and a team has a day to remember. We’ve all seen it before, a
net 61, maybe a net 60, perhaps squeezing into the high 50’s. Always exceptional scoring.
Well at Maylands last Saturday we saw something that defies logic.
In the 4 man Ambrose comp, the winners were, Razor, BJ, Billy and Uncle Ray who came home with (are you sitting down while reading this?) a net 52. Yes, that’s Five-Two. FIFTY
That is truly unbelievable, and, for the record their gross score was 60. Yes, SIXTY. That’s 11 under par. Are you kidding me? With comments like “Talk about couldn’t
miss”. “We were seeing them as big as watermelons”. “We put in a sky high performance”. Well these guys were off the planet! They have to be the brand new Rosehill
Dream Team. An Amazing round fella’s. Well played.
What makes their win even more incredible, was that in second place were the formidable team of Derek “the Perennial Bridesmaid” Lees (yet again), Stevie “the Fat Controller” G, Craig “the
Dobbinator” Dobbie and Jarrad “the original pin up boy” Buirchell who score 55.75.
Now on any other day of the year, that would have won it hands down, but with their team having drawn “the bridesmaid” in their group, they were always gonna have to settle for second
place. For the record, they had a gross score of nine under 62. Another fantastic round, but unfortunately for them, outshone by the new Dream Team.
Next week we have a Flag Comp, with a game of Stroke. Bookings required via Wayne, no later than Wednesday night, use Facebook, the web site or you can SMS
directly on 0432439239.
February Monthly Medal – Par – 3-2-18
Perth’s mild summer rolled on as 18 gents fronted for the final Monthly Medal game of the summer season. This time
it was everybody’s favourite game……………Par.
Some people say it doesn’t matter what the event is, it’s still a game of golf. But we have to say, it doesn’t matter what the event is, we can always rely on Manoj and Razor to arrive
Out on the course, things started very, very well on the very first hole for Derek “The Perennial Bridesmaid” Lees, who chipped in from 80 metres out to claim an Eagle. What a start.
Would this be the day he finally gets to be the Bride???
Well, in short…No. Coming home in first place this week was Uncle Ray Wood, who carded +7 to take the final shirt on offer. However, Uncle needed a countback, as The Bridesmaid
also scored +7, but, as is becoming the norm, he had to settle for second once again. One day Derek, one day!
Third spot was taken by The Fat Controller, Stevie G, who had a +5, which on most days would have been good enough for the win!
Next week should be fun, as we have a 4 Man Ambrose game on offer. Teams will be drawn out of the hat on the day.
Please book with Wayne no later than Wednesday night, using Facebook, the web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239.
Summer Cup Round 2 – Stroke - 27-1-18
17 players arrived for the Major Trophy of the Summer with the running of round 2 of The Summer Cup.
The night before saw the Australia Day Skyshow and chase the ace both occurring at the tavern, unfortunately some idiots caused quite a bit of damage to the course, with the putting green
pins and two hole pins being stolen, plus some tee markers being stolen as well as two holes on the green damaged and also glass from broken bottles on three greens (as if there are not enough
hazards on the course). Lets hope they can catch the pricks that have no consideration for others.
In the main game, it was a mild summer morning but scoring was F***ing Hot, so hot in fact that two players scored nett 67’s and did not even get a mention!!!
So the daily Podium was finalised, starting in third with Stevie G scoring a net 66, he edged out Pius via a countback,
who had to settle for fourth. In second place, losing another countback was our perennial Bridesmaid in Derek Lees with a great net 63, but the Bride on the day was Jimmy (pull my finger)
If you thought the daily event was tight, there was a three way countback for the summer cup, all 3 players on net 135, with 6 players in total all within two strokes of each other B U T in
the end (drumroll please) it was the luck of the Irish as Pius O’Keefe took the overall trophy, with Handicapper Hoppy pushed into second and Carl the Viking not being able to create the same magic
this week, having to settle for third. Full results are in the picture, click on it for a larger view.
Next week is the running of the February monthly medal, with another round of stroke. Bookings with Wayne no later than Wednesday night please, use Facebook,
the web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239.
In Memoriam – Phil Aquilina
We are very sad to advise that former club member Phil Aquilina recently passed away.
Phil was introduced to the club by best mates Ryan and Jarrad, playing his first card on 3/10/2009.
Phil worked away in a FIFO capacity on the oil rigs and therefore could not play as many games as he would like, but whenever possible he did his best to attend, totalling 36 rounds and
having a very impressive handicap of 10.
Phil was always welcome at club, getting along with all the members and contributing whenever he could, including spending some time on the social committee.
The club would like to pass on its sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Summer Cup Round 1 – Stroke - 20-1-18
The most prestigious event of the summer season finally arrived last Saturday, with the running of the Summer Cup, played
over two consecutive weeks of stroke.
And it’s at the big tournaments where the big players rise to the top. In this case the old Viking himself, carl SS Andersson led the way with an amazing 65. Just to show how
good his game was, for the first time ever, he beat young gun and son “Angry” scoring 93 off the stick!!!
Coming home second, was Razor, who had 68, just 3 shots back. This was a great score, seeing that he had a lot of other things going on to distract him. It started when both he
and TWFSL arrived very late for the game, after not checking to see that there was a slightly earlier start.
Then it nearly finished for him on the 16th, when he didn’t get the settings right on the Mercedes Benz Buggy he owns, with the offending buggy not turning off and continuing its forward
journey, past the green and almost into the lake! It was only a bush that stopped it from getting wet, with the wheels still spinning around like a bogan on a burnout pad.
Coming home third with 69, to be sure, was Pius who needed a count back to push Churchy back into
4th. Both these guys are still well in the mix. Full scores can be seen in the picture. Click on it for a larger view.
There was plenty of drama with the other guys too, as Puddles managed to lose 4 different balls on 4 different holes, but on each tee, he never played a provisional, meaning he had to run
back 4 times. Much to the delight of the group behind!!!
Another ball that was lost for a while was BJ’s drive on the 3rd. He monstered it over the trees, but when the group got to their balls, mid
fairway, BJ’s ball was nowhere in sight, that is until someone spied a little white dot 2 metres short of the green. The estimate was it was about a 300m effort. For the record, he got
But the “BIGGEST” number of the day went to Glenn, who battled on to secure the NAGA, after scoring a 21 on the 14th. Congrats Glenn on
So who will take out round 2 and will it be enough to catch Carl. There are plenty of chaser’s who stand a chance.
Bookings with Wayne no later than Wednesday night via Facebook, the web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239.
January Monthly Medal – Stableford - 13-1-18
With a forecast pushing 37 on the cards, the boys were happy to get out early in search of the first monthly medal of
2018, with stableford being the format.
There was a good turn up as well, with some sizzling scores on dispaly. None better than the “repeat man” Jarrad Buirchell, who backed up last week’s win, with 40 stableford points to
take the shirt.
It was close though, with the Postie also running hot, scoring 39 points for second place. He needed a count back to hold off BJ who had to settle for third.
So onto next week and we are down to the business end of the season, with the running of the Summer Cup, which is held over two consecutive weeks, with back to back rounds of
Is Jarrad the man to beat? Will the Postie repeat his winter club championship form? Or will one of the others sneak up and take out the most prestigious trophy of
If you want to be a part of it, book in with Wayne no later than Wednesday night via Facebook, the clubs web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239.
New Years Cup – Stroke - 6-1-18
Another full house as the boys fronted up for the very first game of 2018 played in beautiful weather.
Stroke was the game with the New Years Cup trophy up for grabs and it was the Old Rosehill Pin Up Boy, Jarrad Buirchell, who took out first place with a very nice 65. Now for the
record, that was 70 off the stick. A very nice way to start the year “old fella”.
Second and third places needed a countback to separate Glenn “Mr Social” Ross, who pipped TWFSL to the runners up spot, both guys scoring 68.
Clearly the top 3 guys had their eyes in and were seeing the ball very clearly. Unfortunately though, this could not be said for Angry! While acting as chauffeur for Carl, he
somehow managed to drive right over a tree stump, to the point that the cart was stranded with wheels off the ground and spinning away. Father & Son were going nowhere!
To add insult to Angry’s injury, Carl was quick to point out about the rogue tree stump ”Even I could F**ken see it”!!!
Next week is the first monthly medal of 2018, played via a game of Stableford.
Bookings via Wayne (if there’s any spots left) no later than Wednesday night via Facebook, the clubs web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239.
4BBB Event – 30-12-17
Summer golf continued, this time with fun game of 4BBB, which saw players selected via a draw.
And (in his own words) “someone had a day out” as Derek Lees teamed up with not one, but two players to make sure he took the win. (sounds desperate to us)
Derek was paired with Razor AND with Little Dave (due to an odd number of players).
The Mancurian made the most of his double chance by winning the event with Razor on 47points and then backed up with Little Dave to take third with 44 points.
It was only the countback that stopped him from taking second place, with The Postie and Kill-R taking that out, also scoring 44 points.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for the rest of the pack though, with Hoppy’s luck FINALLY running out, when he hit a tree and IT STAYED
Our intrepid photographer couldn’t wait to get a picture of Hoppy’s Brocky!
As mentioned, Kill-R was back and it didn’t take him long to get his gleaming mug on the web site, as he was snapped by another intrepid photographer, as Kill-R was drinking (and we quote
the photographers own words) “with a poofter midday glass”.
Next week is another major trophy event with the running of the New Years Cup, played via a game of stroke.
And on the subject, the club wishes all its members and family a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
If you want a game next week please book via Wayne, no later than Wednesday night via Facebook, the clubs web site or you can SMS directly on
0432439239. Spots are very limited and as always, first in best dressed.
The Christmas Cup – Stroke – 23-12-17
Another beautiful summer’s morning greeted the boys who turned out for the first of the Major Trophy event of the season,
with the running of the Christmas Cup, over a game of stroke.
Scoring by our winners was sensational, with third place going to The Postie, who had an impressive 69. Even better was Razor, who had a day out by returning a score of 66, which he
must have thought was finally going to bag him a big one.
But unfortunately for Razor, absolutely blowing all the field away was Churchy who had a 60. Yes, that’s Six-Zero!!! What a round. Love to see what the handicapper makes of
Well played guys, tough field to play in!!!
As for the rest of the pack, it wasn’t all plain sailing, as we uncovered the new “Mrs Doubtfire” (BJ) who was pictured (just ahead of the men’s first tee box), sporting his lovely new
summer head dress, after he failed to make the ladies tee!!!
In other news, we would like to acknowledge the Maylands course staff and management for putting on an enjoyable sundowner last Friday evening, to thank for all of the regular clubs for
their participation, which of course included our very own Rosehill, who were well represented.
To Nigel, Wade and all the guys and girls at Maylands, we say thank you, it was greatly appreciated.
Also, we want to wish all our members and the Maylands team a safe and happy Christmas time.
So the summer comp rolls on again next week, with a fun 4BBB event. Please book via Wayne, no later than Wednesday night via Facebook, the clubs web site or
you can SMS directly on 0432439239. Spots are very limited and as always, first in best dressed. Just like BJ.
Russian Stableford – Stableford – 16-12-17
A lovely morning greeted the 16 guys who paired up for the running of the Russian Stableford event.
It was a tight fought affair too, with a countback required to separate the top two teams, who both scored 88 points.
Our winners though were The Postie and The Pom (Derek Lees). We have to say that Wayne looked particularly pleased with himself after the game. Maybe this was because he had
pipped the second placed team of Marbuck and The Viking.
Missing out for the first time this season was Little Dave, who was overheard saying that he’s looking forward to next week as he’s tired of dragging Puddles around and was looking forward
to having his own handicap back and showing the rest of the boys a clean pair of heels.
To do this, he and the other boys will have to win the first major event of the summer comp, with the running of the Christmas Cup, played over a game of stroke.
Please book via Wayne no later than Wednesday night via Facebook, the clubs web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239. Spots are very limited.
Also, don’t forget we have the drinks and finger food provided by the Maylands course on Friday 22nd December, thanks going to Nigel and Wade. Food and open
bar are free to members and only $15 for your partner. However, you MUST contact Derek via SMS on 0419192863 or use Facebook if not already booked. Please do not just rock up
2 Man Ambrose – Stroke – 9-12-17
Another hot day and a full house too, as the course could not accommodate any more that 16 players for the running of the
2 Man Ambrose comp.
Always interesting combinations get thrown up with Ambrose, but this time, coming out on top was Little Dave & Puddles. This is two weeks in a row that we’ve seen Dave’s “glowing”
face on the web site, although this time, it could be love!!!
Their score of 51.25 was “just” enough to hold off Stevie G & Chruchy who had 61.75.
Third spot went to Marbuck & TWFSL with 63.50.
Now next weeks game of Russian stableford is already booked out solid, with only 16 spots being available again, so no need to book via Wayne no later than Wednesday night, unless of course
you want to go on the standby list. If so please use Facebook, the clubs web site or you can SMS directly on 0432439239.
IMPORTANT: Straight after the game, the club will hold the AGM. Guessing that this will be around 11am, so please do your very best to be there as we run through
2017 and look to elect the committee for 2018.
Finally, can you please let Derek Lees know (Before next Saturday) if you are interested in going to Maylands on Friday 22nd December for an evening put on by Nigel and Wade to thank the 3
clubs who play at Maylands. Food and open bar provided. Contact Derek via SMS on 0419192863 or use Facebook.
December Monthly Medal – Stroke – 2-12-17
Summer golf was back with a vengeance, with predicted 36 degrees on the cards, it was an even dozen guys who got out
early……..very early, for the game.
Ten past five in the morning is normally the time most of use think about a quick visit to the bathroom, not teeing off on the first at Maylands, but this didn’t faze our Monthly Medal
winners, led by Little Dave who had a blistering round of 66 to take the first shirt of the new season.
Always the bridesmaid and never the bride was Derek Lees, who had to settle for second, despite carding a very impressive 68.
Coming home third was the Dobbinator who had an even par 71.
Next week, everyone can have a sleep in, with the start time being 6:00am, with a game of 2 man Ambrose.
Only 16 spots available, so make sure you book via Wayne no later than Wednesday night please. Use Facebook, the clubs web site or you can SMS directly on
